Spain, Portugal and Morocco will host the FIFA 2030 World Cup, while the opening games will be held in South America, FIFA said on Wednesday.
“In 2030, the FIFA World Cup will unite three continents and six countries … The FIFA Council unanimously agreed that the sole candidacy will be the combined bid of Morocco, Portugal, and Spain, which will host the event in 2030 and qualify automatically from the existing slot allocation subject to the completion of a successful bidding process conducted by FIFA and a decision by the FIFA Congress in 2024,” FIFA said in a statement.
Earlier in the day, the head of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), Alejandro Dominguez, said that Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina will host the opening matches of the 2030 FIFA World Cup .
“We aimed high and dreamed big. The 2030 Centenario World Cup starts where it all began. The host of the opening matches of the Centenario World Cup will be Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina,” Dominguez wrote on X.
