A Sukhoi SU-25 aircraft belonging to the Malian Armed Forces crashed on Tuesday in the airport area of Gao, in the north of the country, while providing support to civilians in the region, the General Staff of the Malian Armed Forces announced.
"On October 4, 2022, at around 9:30 a.m., a Sukhoi SU-25 fighter plane belonging to the Malian Armed Forces, bearing the registration number TZ-20C, crashed in the Gao airport area on its way back from a mission to support the civilian population in the region," the Malian army said in a statement, without giving any details of the outcome. Local sources and the media said the plane crashed over an ammunition depot, causing loud bangs, and that evacuations of families were underway on Tuesday. The same sources announced an unofficial toll of one dead and 8 injured, including 3 civilians.
