French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne announced on Tuesday the requisition of staff for the unblocking of fuel depots of the group Esso-Exxonmobil, hampered by a strike for wage claims.
"I have asked the prefects to initiate the procedure for requisitioning the staff essential to the operation of Esso-ExxonMobil depots," said the head of government during questions to the government at the National Assembly.
Esso has three depots in France, in Toulouse, Fos-sur-Mer (Bouches-du-Rhône) and Notre-Dame-de-Gravenchon (Seine-Maritime). The last two are located near the company's two French refineries, which are on strike.
As for TotalEnergies, another oil group affected by the strike, Ms. Borne urged management and unions to engage in wage negotiations, otherwise threatening to do the same to unblock the situation.
On Tuesday, nearly a third of service stations are experiencing fuel supply problems, a situation that has lasted for several days, due in particular to the strike movement in French refineries (at TotalEnergies and Esso-ExxonMobil).
This context generates tensions in the supply of petroleum products in some territories, especially in the Hauts-de-France, close to the refineries, and in Île-de-France.
