Foreign ministers from Morocco, Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, and Niger convened in Marrakech, Morocco, on Saturday, to enhance regional collaboration. They discussed a strategy recommended by Morocco’s King Mohammed VI to allow Sahel nations to access the Atlantic Ocean. The king indicated that the project's success would depend on improving Sahel infrastructure and integrating it with the region's existing transport and communication networks. Following the talks, a statement was issued thanking Morocco for proposing to share its transport infrastructure with the Sahel to boost their global trade involvement. Additionally, each country agreed to establish a National Task Force to advance the initiative. The Sahel, including these nations, is an ecologically fragile area in Africa facing various issues like economic underdevelopment and climate change impacts.
